چکیده
IDENTIFICATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF EXCESSIVE SLEEPINESS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ROLES FOR THE SLEEP CLINICIAN. Pathological sleepiness occurs in association with disorders and conditions such as narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnia, and sleep deprivation. It may occur due to the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, a variety of other medical and neurological disorders, or medication side effects. Excessive sleepiness is defined as sleepiness that occurs in a situation when an individual would usually be expected to be awake and alert. It affects approximately 5% of the general population 1,2 [1.0]. Excessive sleepiness is associated with significant morbidity and increased mortality risk to the individual and others. For example, sleepiness may adversely affect motor vehicle drivers and those in positions involving public transportation and safety 3. In addition

Insomnia with physiological hyperarousal is associated with hypertension.
Previous studies have suggested that insomnia with objective short sleep duration is associated with a higher risk of hypertension, and it has been speculated that the underlying mechanism is physiological hyperarousal. In this study, we tested whether insomnia with physiological hyperarousal measured by Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), a standard test of sleepiness/alertness, is associated ...

The multiple sleep latency test and the maintenance of wakefulness test were administered on the same day to 258 consecutive patients whose clinical presentation required evaluation for excessive sleepiness. While the MSLT is the standard test for assessing excessive daytime sleepiness, the MWT may have some clinical advantage over the MSLT when the assessment of daytime alertness is the primar...
متن کاملObstructive Sleep Apnea With Objective Daytime Sleepiness Is Associated With Hypertension.
Subjective daytime sleepiness is considered a significant risk factor of hypertension in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). In this study, our goal was to examine the joint effect on hypertension of OSA and objective daytime sleepiness measured by the multiple sleep latency test (MSLT). A total of 1338 Chinese patients with OSA and 484 primary snorers were included in the study. All s...

1467 Polysomnography and MSLT for Children—Aurora et al 1.0 INTRODUCTION A level 1 comprehensive nocturnal polysomnogram (PSG) is commonly used to evaluate children with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB). The PSG, however, is also used in evaluations for non-respiratory issues, such as sleep-related movements or behaviors, and is used in conjunction with a multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) for ...
متن کاملAssessing the efficacy to conduct the multiple sleep latency test with actigraphy.
This study explored the efficacy of 1 actigraphy (ACT) brand, at different analytic settings, for use to administer the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT). Forty-one first-time postpartum mother and father participants were administered the MSLT with concurrent ACT. To identify ACT sleep onset latency (SOL), ACT signals were interpreted with iterations of different "wake threshold value" (WTV) ...
